For instance, if you choose a G as the tonic chord, GarageBand will recommend the subdominant C and the dominant D chords. In its easiest forum, you choose the root chord of a song you are “writing” and a Smart instrument and then GarageBand will automatically choose chords that naturally fit. There are different ways to control the Smart Instruments. Basically everything you need to create a band in a variety of genres including rock, blues, jazz and electronic.
